Project A-Ko

Project A-Ko was one of the first Anime movies I watched and at first when I saw it, I thought it was a
Sailor Moon spin-off or something. The first time I seen any Project A-Ko movies was on the Sci-Fi
channel back when they still had their “Saturday Anime” Programming. I came in pretty late in the movie
but that same day they were airing 2 more A-Ko movies, the two Verses films side by side as if they were
one movie. Yeah needless to say this confused the hell out of me. But I became a fan through it all and
eventually bought all of the Project A-Ko movies and I have to say, I liked them all. Sure it was better
when I thought it was a Sailor Moon tie in, but these movies are good enough to stand on their own merits
with or without the comparison. Little did I know they were actually supposed to be spoofs either. I love
pretty much everything about this particular series. The art and story telling is perfectly intermingled
with the humor and crazy anime action that makes these movies great. I highly recommend Project A-Ko,
not only to adamant anime fans, but also to the un-initiated looking for a good movie to start them off on.
MOVIES
Macross Plus

I watched this one late one night on Showtime such a long time ago I honestly remember very little about
it. All I know is it is somehow related to Robotech and that it is supposed to be very good. I don’t
remember enough to say if I liked it or not but I remember liking it so that gives me reason to continue
to look for a decent copy to watch so that I can finally know once and for all.
Transformers: The Movie

Now as I said before it is debatable weather or not this even counts as anime, I can easily justify the
TV shows but can the movie be called anime? Honestly I do not see why not. As far as I am concerned
this movie is what raised the bar for TF story telling and production values, even if the following season
failed to capture the magic the movie was fantastic. I know that many Trans fans even argue amongst
themselves if the movie and what follows even qualifies as official canon so it is a hard choice to make
calling this anime. Still I feel comfortable enough to put it here as anime instead of under Sc-Fi or
whatever. Even though I do intend to have a full featured Transformers section eventually, I wanted to
put the shows and movies here.
Vampire Hunter D

Vampire Hunter D was the first anime movie I got my sister to watch and was all it took to get her
into the medium. Some would argue that it is one of the better anime movies out there, and I would tend
to agree. Although I have yet to see the sequel I am somewhat interested in it.
Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland

Now I could be mistaken in this but as far as I can remember this was the first anime movie I had
seen. I know I had already watched several anime tv shows prior to watching the movie but I can’t
remember watching any movies prior to this one. So it does stand out in my memory as one of my first,
if not the first, anime movies that entered my life. Irregardless it is still one of my favorite anime
movies. I do know for a fact that I had played the game long before watching the movie but I do not
remember much else. I still own an original copy of the NES cart as well as an original VHS copy of
the movie in addition to the DVD release. My favorite horror movie franchise is A Nightmare On Elm
Street, let’s just say I have an obsession with dreams and Little Nemo just so happens to also take
place in the dream world.
Iria: Zeiram The Animation.

I have to make a confession, I have never seen the whole movie. It is one of my favorite anime
movies and all I remember is what I saw on the Sci-Fi channel but what I saw was enough to rank
this in my top ten  favorite anime movies even though I am still hunting down a copy of the entire
movie/series so I can see the entire story. I don’t even know which part I saw.
Ghost In the Shell

There isn’t a whole lot I can say about this master piece. Hands down one of the best anime
movies I have ever seen. I still remember the first time I watch this movie. Like most anime
movies I saw it on the Sci-Fi channel and it was late at night so I did come in on the ending,
which caused me to hunt down a copy and watch it all the way through.
